Sue
Stableford, M.P.H., M.S.B.
Sue Stableford, M.P.H., M.S.B., is the Founder and Director
of the AHEC Health Literacy Center at the University
of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine in
Biddeford, Maine. She is a faculty member in the University’s
Masters in Public Health program. Her career in health
education and communication spans more than 30 years.
For
over 15 years, Sue has specialized in health literacy
and plain language, establishing the first national
institute for plain language writing skills. She teaches
in public,
private, and academic organizations; develops plain
language materials and web information; participates
in research
and patient decision-making projects; reviews articles
and publishes in peer-reviewed journals; serves as
a consultant on national and international projects;
collaborates
in developing plain language policy and capacity-building
efforts within organizations; and presents keynotes
and workshops in state and national forums.
Sue stays
up to date with multidisciplinary research and best
practice. She continually infuses her work
with new learning, along with energy and enthusiasm.
Her clients
include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Healthwise Inc., and Massachusetts General Hospital.
